Ep. 37. Exodus 28-31 | Priestly Garments
EPISODE 37
PRIESTLY GARMENTS: EXODUS 28-31
Once again, we come to one of my favorite texts in the Bible. The better I understand the Bible, the more favorite texts I have. We discussed the priestly garments in today's video, and I hope you caught how amazing it was. Remember, not just the tabernacle, but the priesthood is a picture of the truer heavenly things. What we see here in the details of the Aaronic priesthood foreshadows the priesthood of Jesus for us.
Aaron bears the two stones of remembrance before the Lord. He is allowed to do this once a year to bring the people of God back to God's mind and remind God of the covenant he has with his people. We know that Jesus, unlike Aaron, remains in the presence of God and intercedes on our behalf forever. His intercession is permanent because he retains his priesthood permanently.
Then we have the breast piece of judgment worn over the heart. We know that Christ Jesus bore our trespasses before God. We do not need another sacrifice. Aaron needed new blood every time he came before the presence of God because the blood of bulls and goats was insufficient to remove sin. Still, Jesus need not offer another sacrifice for sin since his blood redeems and purifies for all time.
We can't forget the gold headband that declares "Holy to the Lord." As the symbol, Aaron sanctified (consecrated) all the gifts that the people brought before God as holy. Similarly, you and I are consecrated before God as holy offerings because Jesus has declared us holy. It may reshape how we view Romans 12, no longer thinking it is our job to make ourselves holy and acceptable to God but recognizing that Jesus has declared us holy and acceptable to God.
Think about that again. We can present ourselves to God as living sacrifices not because we have worked to make ourselves holy and acceptable to God but because our high priest has declared us holy and acceptable in God's sight. I mean, come on! THANK YOU, JESUS.
