Ep. 158. Isaiah 25-26 | He Will Swallow Up Death
EPISODE 158
HE WILL SWALLOW UP DEATH: ISAIAH 25-26
Chapter 25 of Isaiah should rank near the top of your list regarding Old Testament prophesies about the second coming of Jesus. The fact that Paul quotes this text in 1 Corinthians as it relates to the return of Christ and the resurrection of the dead makes it even more potent. There will come a day when God makes a feast of rich food for all peoples, swallows up death forever, wipes away the tears from all faces, and finally removes the reproach of his people. Then the people will gather to God and declare, "This is our God; we have waited for him, that he might save us. This is the Lord; we have waited for him; let us be glad and rejoice in his salvation."
I long for that day! At the sound of the trumpet and with the archangel's voice, Christ will appear on the clouds, and we will celebrate the coming of our King and Savior.
If you ever wonder where the Old Testament speaks of the resurrection of the dead, look no further than Isaiah 26. The last three verses of this chapter make the resurrection of the dead a certified truth: "Your dead shall live; their bodies shall rise." The dead need only hide themselves for a little while, and then they will come forth living once again.
