Ep. 157. Isaiah 22 | Tomorrow We Die
EPISODE 157
TOMORROW WE DIE: ISAIAH 22
I've pointed it out before, but it is worth noting that Isaiah 22:5 indicates God creating a day of trampling and "confusion." I was taught in the church that God does not cause confusion. The supporting text was always in Paul's first letter to the Corinthians. However, Paul is speaking to the specific issue of a church service, that it should be orderly and not full of confusion. There are several examples in the Old Testament of God throwing people into confusion. God only throws his enemies into confusion and never those who follow him faithfully. But he DOES throw people into confusion.
Isaiah 22 also gives us a quote used by Paul in 1 Corinthians 15, "Let us eat and drink, for tomorrow we die." This is the attitude of the rebellious one. They did not/do not repent or weep over their sins; instead, they decided to throw a party. After all, why not? "Tomorrow we die." Do not think for a moment this is the attitude of those who know and love God. Instead, this is the attitude of the godless, the idolater, the lover of self.
For the believer, since we know and believe in the imminent return of Jesus, we conduct ourselves in holy and reverent fear upon the earth. We place all our hope in the return of our Savior-King.
