Ep. 187. Lamentations | Isn't This Depressing
EPISODE 187
ISN'T THIS DEPRESSING: LAMENTATIONS
"Lament: a passionate expression of grief or sorrow."
After Jeremiah has prophesied to rebellious people for forty years, after the city has fallen, after the King has been captured, after the people double down on rebellion, after the nation of God has been brought to nothing, Jeremiah laments.
When the prophet has become a laughingstock, has been filled with bitterness, cowered in ashes, lost all peace, forgotten happiness, and has no endurance left, in that destitute place, he remembers God. He remembers that the steadfast love of God never ceases, he calls to mind the newness of God's mercy each morning, he remembers that God is the portion of his life, and in that remembrance, he finds his hope.
What a tremendous lesson for us amid our sorrow. Even in sorrow, we have hope, not that our circumstances will be changed but that our gracious God is UNCHANGING!
