Ep. 185. Jeremiah 51-52 | The Fall of Jerusalem
EPISODE 185
THE FALL OF JERUSALEM: JEREMIAH 51-52
God used both Assyria and Babylon to discipline his rebellious people. Assyria and Babylon were little more than instruments in the hands of God to accomplish his purpose for the nations of Israel and Judah.
Just like Assyria became arrogant and was then destroyed by God, so also Babylon would ultimately be destroyed for their pride. It is a peculiar truth of the Old Testament that God used the wicked nations to discipline the nation he had a covenant with, and then he punished the wicked nation for daring to raise its hands against the anointed people of God.
Israel and Judah were not faithful to the covenant they made with God, but God never ceased to be faithful, and he upheld the covenant despite the sins of his people. He allowed the oppressor to come, but he did not allow the oppressor to annihilate the people of God.
In Jeremiah 51, we see a prophecy of Babylon's destruction. As I pointed out, this prophecy isn't just for the physical nation of Babylon but also for the Spiritual Babylon that has stood opposed to God since almost the beginning. In the final days of these present heavens and earth, spiritual Babylon will be cast down, and the saints will gather around God and exalt his name for the destruction he brought on his enemies.
