Ep. 245. John 17 | Prayer in the Garden
EPISODE 245
PRAYER IN THE GARDEN: JOHN 17
I won't spend a lot of time here on this chapter, but I will say that we ought to think hard on the prayer of Jesus that the believers would be one even as he and the Father are one. This goes back to what we talked about a couple of days ago that the true sign of the believer is how they love their fellow believers. Spiritually speaking, the church (the bride of Christ) is not splintered. Spiritually speaking, the bride of Christ is perfectly unified in Christ. If Jesus were to return today, then all of the believers, dead and living, would be caught up together to Jesus, and all would bow before him, and all would proclaim praise to him, saying, "Worthy is the lamb who was slain."
Practically speaking, the church looks very splintered. The goal isn't for us to be less splintered. At least that shouldn't be our goal. The goal should be to recognize our ACTUAL unity with each other, for we are "one body, called to one hope, with one Spirit, one Lord, one faith, one baptism, and one God." These seven things ACTUALLY unite us, and we should want to walk in that unity to the glory of the Father in answer to Jesus' prayer.
