Ep. 127. Song of Solomon 1-8 | My Beloved
EPISODE 127
MY BELOVED: SONG OF SONGS 1-8
This book, though known as Song of Solomon, is probably Song of Songs. It tells the story of a man of position falling in love with a shepherdess. It is easily the most awkward book to preach through on a Sunday morning, though a few chapters of Ezekiel are more uncomfortable. This book has several voices, including the bride, groom, friends, and God. You will find that editors have differing views on who is speaking and when. It would help if you looked at Song of Songs in different translations to see how it was divided by various editors. Be careful not to put too much stock in the editorial headings, or at least don't draw an absolute conclusion based just on the headings. If Solomon really wrote this, some people believe it was only inspired by him; then it does make us feel like some of the romance is lost, and the shine is taken off the apple. After all, Solomon had 700 wives and 300 concubines. He was a bit of a dog. Take the romance from the book that you can and be inspired to love well in your marriage. I have other thoughts, but I'll leave those for a different venue.
