Ep. 210. Zechariah 1-5 | Vision Upon Vision
EPISODE 210
VISION UPON VISION: ZECHARIAH 1-5
Zechariah has become one of my favorite books in recent years, though I must admit I don't know it nearly as well as I desire to. It is clear that it shares a lot in common with Revelation, and I've indicated that in some of the additional readings I've given you below. Please remember that Zechariah is a contemporary of Haggai, and both prophets preceded Ezra and Nehemiah's visit to Jerusalem.
I love the repetition in Zechariah's visions, but making too much of the numbers is inappropriate. Jewish numerology is not quite as old as the Jewish people but is a relatively modern discipline. It isn't right to assign meanings to the numbers born from later Jewish tradition and not Biblical teaching.
My favorite chapter of this segment is the third chapter, wherein we find Joshua, the High Priest, cleansed of his sin and set before God in holy attire. Joshua and his friends serve as signs before the people of "The Branch," which we already know to refer to Christ.
I encourage you to delight in the prophecies as you read through this book and see how they beautifully point to the last days and the coming of Jesus, our Priest and King.
