Ep. 212. Zechariah 11-14 | On That Day

EPISODE 212

ON THAT DAY: ZECHARIAH 10-14

Fourteen times (unless I miscounted) in the last three chapters of Zechariah, we see the words, "On that day." These words don't refer to a single day in the future of mankind but rather a period of time in the future of mankind. We tend to call "that day" the "last days" or the "end times." As I have already said, I love the book of Zechariah, but I feel I'm just now beginning to appreciate the riches of these few chapters.

There is, of course, the reference to the thirty pieces of silver for which Christ was betrayed by Judas, but the last few chapters give us incredible insight to how the final days of this world will unfold. One of the things we see is that Jerusalem will be made a "heavy stone" and "all who lift it will surely hurt themselves.” Furthermore, "all the nations of the earth will gather against it." But God will destroy all the nations that gathered against his anointed city. (See 12:9-10)

Intermingled with the last days prophesies we see the cross highlighted as well for "On that day there will be a fountain opened for the house of David and the inhabitants of Jerusalem, to cleanse them from sin and uncleanness." And also, "Strike the shepherd, and the sheep will be scattered."

We even get hints at the New Jerusalem for: "On that day there shall be no light, cold, or frost. And there shall be a unique day known to the Lord, neither day nor night, but at evening time there shall be light. On that day, living waters shall flow out from Jerusalem."

This little book contains more than I can currently discuss. Give me a year or two, and maybe I'll be able to revisit this with you more thoroughly.
