Ep. 115. Psalm 115, 135 | Those Who Make Them
EPISODE 115
THOSE WHO MAKE THEM: PSALM 115, 135
"Why should the nations say, 'Where is their God?'" This is an interesting statement. You can imagine a scenario where the people of God appear to be abandoned by him, and the enemies of God would say, with a mocking tone, "Where is their God now?" In this text, the people of God respond, "Our God is in the heavens; he does all that he pleases."
Though the nations may mock us, as they do even today, by saying, "Where was your God when this tragedy happened, or that atrocity;" we can now respond with, "He is in the heavens; he does all that he pleases." But of those who do not worship the creator of heaven and earth, of those who worship idols, we say, "You serve gods who can not speak, see, hear, smell, feel, or walk. And those of you who serve such gods will become like them." The antithesis is true for us who follow the Lord God; he is life, and in him, we have life. He is powerful, and he makes us like him. We are now being transformed from glory to glory into the likeness of Jesus.
The gods of the nations are just idols, powerless and weak. They can not bring about life, but our trust is in the Lord. The maker of heaven and earth blesses us. The dead will not praise the Lord, but we praise him forevermore.
Remember that our God does whatever he "pleases, in heaven and on earth, in the seas and all the deeps." We will keep our confidence in him until he returns or calls us home.
